The Madras High Court (HC), today, Saturday, December 12, took serious note of the police’s handling of the sexual assault of a 19-year-old Anna University student, particularly criticising the victim-blaming language used in the First Information Report (FIR).

The accused, identified as 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, allegedly attacked the male friend before dragging the survivor behind a building and sexually assaulting her.

The Madras High Court has formed an all-women IPS officers' SIT to probe the Anna University sexual assault case and the FIR leak incident, directing the Tamil Nadu Government to compensate the victim and ensure no future FIR leaks.

Pulling up the police over the investigation into the rape of a girl student of Anna University inside the varsity campus, Madras High Court on Saturday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to take over the probe and ordered an interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim besides directing the state government to take action against the Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner.
