BOSTON (AP) — Rookie Marcelo Mayer hit two of Boston’s four solo home runs and the Red Sox outlasted the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Wednesday night. Abraham Toro added a go-ahead homer in the fifth inning, and Jarren Duran also hit one to help Boston earn its second series win over the Rays this season.

A Red Sox rookie recorded his first career multi-homer game and Walker Buehler delivered a gem to beat the Tampa Bay Rays and pick up a series victory.

The possibly resurgent Sox (34-36) have won four of five and five of their last seven. They are off Thursday then open a three-game against the Yankees at Fenway on Friday night.
