CHARLEROI, Pa. (KDKA) — A federal judge has ruled that the closure of the Anchor Hocking plant in Charleroi that makes cookware like Pyrex can close as planned. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General had filed for a preliminary injunction and asked a judge to stop the closure, saying that the company was violating antitrust laws.

The small town of Charleroi, long defined by its glass industry, is facing a tough blow after a federal court ruled this week that Anchor Hocking can proceed with its plan to shut down operations and move jobs to Ohio.

The decision was confined to the question of whether or not the closure needed to be stopped immediately to prevent causing “irreparable harm.” The judge found that the harms presented could later be undone through monetary compensation.

The state attorney general argued before Federal Court Judge Nicholas Ranjan Tuesday, seeking a preliminary injunction while they investigate the merger of Pyrex and Anchor Hocking, and whether it creates irreparable damage and a monopoly.
