An orca who captured the world’s attention in 2018 after she carried her dead newborn calf for weeks appears to be a new mother again, bringing a sign of hope to researchers.

The whale, known to the world as Tahlequah, gave birth to her second calf since 2018, when she carried her dead newborn for more than two weeks.

The killer whale that carried her dead calf on her head for more than two weeks for 1,000 miles in 2018 has a new baby, according to the Center for Whale Research.
