It's been 12 years since Assassin's Creed 3 ended the story of Desmond Miles, the series' first recurring modern day protagonist and link between each game until that point. Now, speaking at a BAFTA event held in London on Friday evening attended by Eurogamer,

The modern-day story in Assassin's Creed is set to take a new direction beginning with Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has said.

Originally scheduled to launch in October, Assassin's Creed Shadows was delayed to February 14, 2025. Ubisoft said at the time that the delay was made to give the developers more time to polish the game, and Assassin's Creed Shadows' early access has also been canceled.
