The Laken Riley Act, named for the slain nursing school student who was attacked and killed by a Venezuelan citizen who had entered the U.S. illegally, is the first legislative win of Trump's second term.

The House passed the legislation last week one day after it passed the Senate, teeing it up to be Trump’s first bill signed into law.

The Laken Riley Act directs Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain illegal immigrants arrested or charged with theft-related crimes, or those accused of assaulting a police officer.
