A former Arkansas police chief who escaped from a prison 12 days ago was apprehended about a mile and half from where he was incarcerated in northwest Arkansas.

Grant Hardin, the former police chief known as the "Devil in the Ozarks," has been caught after nearly two weeks on the run. Hardin is serving a decadeslong sentence on rape and murder charges. He was caught less than two miles from the prison he escaped from,

"That officer is in a very, very tough place; unimaginable what that officer has to be feeling right now," Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said.
