Pope Francis kept annual Holy Week appointment visiting dozens of inmates in a Rome prison on Thursday. The 88-year-old is still recovering from pneumonia.

Pope Francis, still recovering from double pneumonia, paid a surprise visit on Thursday to Rome's Regina Coeli, one of Italy's most overcrowded prisons, to offer well-wishes to inmates ahead of Easter.

Multiple New York prison guards have been indicted in connection with the “disturbing” death of an inmate last month during a wildcat officers’ strike, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Tuesday.

Ten New York prison guards were charged Wednesday in connection with the fatal beating of a 22-year-old inmate last month — including two charged with murder. It's the second time a group of correctional officers in the state was indicted for a death behind bars this year.

In all, 10 officers were charged in connection with the vicious beating of Messiah Nantwi, 22, at the Mid-State Correctional Facility, which left him bloodied and unrecognizable.
