Suddenly, Hinch had to get his bullpen ready. Mize struck out Matt Wallner, then Ty France singled up the middle knocking in a run and Mize was done, as the Twins held a 4-1 lead. He gave up four earned runs, allowed seven hits, although two of them were homers. He had three strikeouts with no walks.

The Detroit Tigers, already having secured a series win against the Twins in Minneapolis, were going for the series sweep today. It was also a scheduled celebration at the park as Hall of Famer Joe Mauer had a statue unveiled outside of Target Field.

The rookie right-hander turned in by far his best outing of his young career, limiting the Twins to two hits over six scoreless innings in a 4-0 win.
