Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin opened in 1998 in the one-time “If You Had Wings” building. The dark ride, which uses “Toy Story” characters including Evil Emperor Zurg, has a carnival theme and passengers glide by targets. Visitors are ranked by their scores. Levels range from star cadet to galactic hero.

Not to be overshadowed, though, and potentially timed to Toy Story’s 30th anniversary, Disney’s Imagineering has announced some big changes, which will result in a technological infusion to a mainstay attraction – Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

Disney filed the first permit for the major overhaul of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom. The Notice of Commencement filed in Orange County, Florida is to “Install set elements” at the ride’s address. It expires in one year and contracts frequent Disney collaborator Icarus Exhibits, Inc.
