Brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez, jailed for life for the 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills, are set to be given a hearing on Thursday to determine whether they may be eligible for a lesser sentence and a path to parole after more than three decades behind bars.

The Menendez hearing is now under way. It started about 15 minutes late, possibly because the LA District Attorney was giving a press conference outside the court. The brothers have joined via a video link from prison. They are incarcerated near San Diego at a prison just north of the border with Tijuana, Mexico.

A long-awaited resentencing hearing for Lyle and Erik Menendez ground to a halt Thursday just hours after attorneys arrived at the courthouse in Van Nuys, partly over a risk assessment report on the brothers that was was not intended for this week's court proceeding.
