Sudan’s army had previously announced the retaking of the presidential palace in Khartoum, which had been under RSF control since the start of the conflict. The palace, symbolic of Sudan’s leadership, was seized by the RSF forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedi, following the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023.
