Kīlauea volcano’s Episode 18 eruption peaked, with lava fountains reaching over 600 feet (200 meters) from the south vent in Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The eruption began at 3:20 a.m. local time (HST) and lasted about 10 hours.

Lava fountains soared as high as 650 feet early today as “episode 18” of Kilauea volcano’s summit eruption resumed after a two-day pause, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
