Contract negotiations have broken off between King Soopers, City Market workers in the Denver area, and Kroger, the union representing the workers announced on Jan. 17.

Union leaders scheduled strike-authorization votes for Jan. 29 and 30 against King Soopers stores in metro Denver.

Together, with potential strikes by Safeway and Costco workers, grocery workers could launch one of the first major labor struggles under the new Trump administration.

Votes are scheduled for January 29 in Westminster and the following day in Greenwood Village. King Soopers made what it called its “last, best and final offer” to the workers’ union last week. The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 rejected it.

The union that represents King Soopers employees said Friday that after months of negotiations, its contracts with the supermarket chain have expired and votes authorizing a strike could be announced as early as Monday.

Denver-area grocery workers are going to vote next week on whether or not to strike against King Soopers again, the local union representing the workers announced.

The company said Thursday night that it has made its “last, best and final offer” to the workers. It’s unclear if the workers are considering a strike.
