A portrait of a young Palestinian boy who lost both arms as a result of an Israeli attack in Gaza has been named World Press Photo of the year.

A photo of a boy injured during an Israeli attack in Gaza taken by Samar Abu Elouf for the New York Times was awarded World Press Photo's "Photo of the Year."

A Palestinian child coping with amputation and a young Ukrainian girl traumatised by war are among the winning images.
