The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially launching in 2025, and we’re here to break down what you need to know and how to secure your own.

The Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the Nintendo Switch system, will be released in 2025, the company said. In a new promotional video, Nintendo showcases a larger version of the Switch that looks similar to its predecessor. The video also shows the system’s controllers, or Joy-Cons, now attach to the side of the main unit rather than slide in.

Nintendo fans in select cities worldwide will get the chance to test out the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2. As is the company’s habit, without much warning or fanfare Nintendo released a teaser for its upcoming console, the Switch 2, early Thursday. According to the trailer, the console is slated for release later this year.

Nintendo has unveiled its first look at the Switch 2, coming in 2025. The video game company has set a Nintendo Direct broadcast for April 2.

The current Switch has its Joy-Con controllers attach by sliding through a railing on the side until a locking mechanism clicks them into place. Owners then press a very (very) small black button on the back to release the mechanism to slide them back out again.

Based on how the first Nintendo Switch launch went down, customers may be able to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 at the earliest in June 2025. Nintendo announced 15 experience events for fans to test out the new hardware in North America,

The original Switch came out in March of 2017 with a $299 price tag. Leaks and rumors suggest the Switch 2 could release in June of 2025. The price will likely fall somewhere between $399 and $499 USD.
