Indian stock markets are observing a holiday today due to the Maharashtra Assembly Election. This closure marks one of the 16 trading holidays scheduled for 2024.

The Indian equity markets snapped seven-day losing streak and ended higher in the volatile session on November 19, with the Nifty at 23,500 amid buying seen in the auto, realty and media.

The elections in Maharashtra are crucial and could affect the stock market because the state is one of India's most industrialized and makes a substantial contribution to the nation's GDP," said Master Capital Services.

Earlier, the stock market holiday schedule for November 2024 listed only two holidays. However, following the announcement of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange declared November 20 as an additional holiday.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will not conduct trading or settlements in stocks, derivatives, or securities lending and borrowing segments on Wednesday

Indian stock exchanges closed on Monday for Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024, marking the 14th trading holiday this year. Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended flat on Tuesday, with Nifty falling close to 10% from its September high.

This will be the third stock market holiday today in November, after Diwali on November 1 and Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15.

Both the leading stock exchanges - National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will remain shut for business or trading tomorrow on account of Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024.
