Genesee County Jail inmate accused of assaulting support dog
A Genesee County jail inmate has been charged in an alleged attack on an emotional support dog last week, officials said. A man slapped the canine, Josie, as she approached the inmate, video of the incident captured by the jail's security camera system shows.

Romeo Maxwell, 27, who is an inmate in Genesee County, viciously attacked Josie, the jail comfort dog. The 13-month-old dog was viciously attacked on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024. Officials say Josie started the day like any other as she performed her daily duties by greeting staff and inmates throughout the jail before the vicious attack.
Michigan inmate charged for punching therapy dog in Genesee County Jail
According to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, Josie was greeting staff and inmates throughout the jail on Sept. 24 when Romello Maxwell struck the 13-month-old dog. Sheriff Chris Swason said Josie suffered a concussion and scraped the inside of her pupil but will be OK.
