The Milwaukee Health Department announced the closure of three additional MPS schools starting Monday, following concerns about "significant lead hazards."

Three more Milwaukee Public Schools buildings will temporarily close Monday to students and staff because of "significant lead hazards" that were identified during inspections by the city Health Department this week, according to a letter addressed to families and staff Thursday.

Weber said lead issues at MPS schools aren't going away, noting a lot of buildings have not been maintained and have chipping paint and layers of dust. The health department must investigate all MPS buildings built before 1978, when lead paint was banned. Eighty-five schools across the district are in that category.
