Election Day polling stations opened Tuesday on the US east coast, kicking off the final opportunity for Americans to vote in the bitterly fought, tightly contested 2024 presidential race.

Election Day polls opened at 6:30 a.m. in North Carolina, setting the stage for what is expected to be a razor-thin battle. Polls will remain open until 7:30 p.m. in the Tar Heel State, although anyone in line when the cutoff time arrives will still be allowed to vote.
