Paige Bueckers has done her best to live in the present during a short period in which she went from winning a national championship with UConn to being the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA draft and now donning a Stetson cowboy hat on a podium in Dallas City Hall.

No. 1 WNBA draft pick Paige Bueckers is officially being introduced by the Dallas Wings on Wednesday. Bueckers, along with fellow Wings rookies, Aziaha James, Madison Scott, JJ Quinerly and Baylor alum Aaronette Vonleh will make their first appearance in Dallas with Mayor Eric Johnson and City Manager Kimberly Tolbert.

Earlier this month, the Dallas Wings did much as they were expected to lead off the WNBA draft, taking UConn star Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick, after she averaged 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and an NCAA-high 4.6 assists in 2023-24, finishing off her injury-pocked career in high style: with a Huskies championship.
