The NFL had made a call on a Jared Goff play in the Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commanders game, and it's good for Goff.

Goff signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension in November 2024, three years after his trade from the Rams. The Lions cannot cut Goff at a financial gain until 2026, per Over The Cap. A post-June 1 designation then would save $35 million with $34.6 million in dead money.

After an impressive 2024 campaign, four Detroit Lions are up for major awards. Included in that four is quarterback Jared Goff, who is a finalist for the Most Valuable Player award.

Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow and Saquon Barkley are finalists for The Associated Press 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year awards.

The Detroit Lions were almost certainly the NFL’s most dominant team in the regular season. The key to their success that saw them win the NFC North title and earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff structure was an explosive offense that averaged a league-best 33.

The Detroit Lions won a franchise-record 15 games this season but lost their playoff opener to the Washington Commanders.

“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” Jones said, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. “He ain’t Brian no more,” Jones puzzlingly added. “He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”

Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Lamar Jackson are finalists for The Associated Press 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player award. Barkley, Burrow and Jackson also are finalists for Offensive Player of the Year and Burrow is also in the running for Comeback Player of the Year.
