Wichita, Kansas, ranks as the fifth windiest city in the U.S. with an average annual wind speed of 11.5 mph. Redfin conducted the study, considering cities with populations over 100,000.

The 17-story hotel, which was built in 1930 then imploded in 1996, drew diners to Kit Kat Coffee Shop, Pup Lunch, Country Kitchen and Pancake Palace, to name a few.

Now, the department is preparing to make them a permanent part of detecting gun violence. In October 2024, the City Council approved the expansion of Flock Safety gun detectors in Wichita.
