Minn., opened a hearing on the Defense budget Tuesday by sharply questioning Secretary Pete Hegseth over the Trump administration’s response to demonstrations in Los Angeles and how the federal government was paying for it.

Pete Hegseth was met with bipartisan criticism Wednesday during the Senate defense appropriations subcommittee hearing.

Several California Democrats questioned Hegseth about the immigration raids that have roiled Los Angeles, the federal commandeering of the state's National Guard and the deployment of Marines.
