New York City lawmakers are suing to block Mayor Eric Adams from allowing federal immigration agents to operate within the Rikers Island jail complex. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by the City Council, accuses Adams of agreeing to the plan to “pay off" the Trump administration in exchange for dropping criminal charges against him.

The department will represent neither side in a City Council suit accusing the mayor of a conflict of interest with the Trump administration.

A lawsuit argues that an executive order that City Hall issued last week is “part of a corrupt quid pro quo bargain” between Mayor Eric Adams of New York and President Trump.
