Starting Monday, April 28, a portion of the intersection, located at Fifth Ave. and South Saint Mary's Street, will be closed.

Work zones are designed to protect both road crews and drivers, but the DOT said distractions and speeding still cause crashes.

Signs of disrepair are scattered throughout the 115-year-old building, from chipping plaster to cracked paint and water damage.
