Cody Balmer was charged with attempted murder, terrorism and other counts after officials said he intentionally set a fire at the Pennsylvania Governor's Residence.

Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were uninjured, but the fire caused a "significant amount of damage" to parts of the governor's mansion, according to state police.

The man charged in the arson attack at the historic Pennsylvania Governor's Residence said he had hatred toward Gov. Josh Shapiro and would have attacked him had they come face-to-face, authorities said Monday.
