While the City of Minneapolis waits for a federal judge to sign off on a consent decree proposed by the U.S. Justice Department, Mayor Jacob Frey is stressing the positives that will flow from the 170-page agreement.

The mayor used his veto power eight times in 2024, which was a record one-year number during his tenure. Four of those vetoes were overridden.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara provided comments on the consent decree that was passed by the Minneapolis City Council Monday.

Murders have doubled in Minneapolis since 2020, and yet city Democrats are worried about finding more bureaucrats to babysit their police department.

The federal consent decree, which contains many of the same proposed mandates as the city’s agreement with the state, requires the city of Minneapolis to consider policing alternatives meant to reduce racial disparities.
