Before the day began, Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio and coach DeMeco Ryans had mapped out a plan, looking a variety of scenarios of how they might approach Day 1 of the NFL draft. They made phone calls around the league Thursday and engaged with teams about potential trades up and trades down.

Houston traded the 25th pick in the draft moments before the selection was due. Now Executive VP & General Manager has 10 picks across days two and three of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Instead, the Texans won't pick until the second selection in the second round on Friday in Round 2. Once a run of talent went on interior offensive linemen, it became clear that Houston was going after draft picks than one certain player.
