Nebraska voters passed two related ballot initiatives to legalize medical marijuana and regulate the industry in the state on Tuesday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two ballot initiatives allowing medical marijuana coasted to victory Tuesday night in Nebraska. One of the initiatives legalizes medical cannabis, while the other provides for its regulation. Initiative 437 had 71% of the vote as of 11:55 p.m., while Initiative 438 had 67%.

Florida's effort to legalize adult-use marijuana failed to pass with a 60% super majority of votes needed. Meanwhile, Nebraska voters approved the state's plan for medical cannabis. Voters in two other states will weigh in on the legalization of marijuana on Tuesday,

Initiative Measure 437 would allow for people to carry and use up to five ounces of cannabis for medical purposes with the recommendation from a health care practitioner. If passed, Initiative Measure 438 would establish NE Medical Cannabis Commission to regulate medical marijuana.

This measure would allow for the use and possession of up to five ounces of cannabis by patients and their caregivers for medical purposes.
