While it’s tough to predict how widespread the viewing opportunity may be on any given night, forecasters say the Northern Lights on Wednesday are favored to be visible from states in the far northern U.S. but possibly as far south as Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

A strong geomagnetic storm means the Northern Lights could be visible north of Chicago near the Illinois-Wisconsin border and in parts of Michigan Wednesday night.
