Health officials say West Nile virus, which can be fatal or cause serious health issues, was detected in a bird in Otsego County.

West Nile cases in Clark County are creeping up to the worst year on record. Back in 2019, 43 human cases were reported. This year, the Southern Nevada Health District confirmed 26 cases. The district says 12 cases are non-neuroinvasive.

Since Aug. 7, 16 Suffolk residents have tested positive for West Nile, the second highest number of human cases in a single year since the county began reporting cases in 2000, the county said.

At least 10 EEE cases have been reported across the country this year, with one death confirmed in New Hampshire. Besides EEE, dengue fever and West Nile virus are the most common mosquito-borne diseases in the US.

San Diego County Thursday confirmed the first case of West Nile Virus in a human this year, in a 71-year-old man who became infected while traveling.

On Sept. 19, the City of Waltham posted on their news page that State Health Officials have found a mosquito infected with West Nile virus in Waltham. The mosquito was found in the Northeast Quadrant of Waltham and tested positive on Sept. 11.

Connecticut officials say residents should take steps to prevent mosquito bites because of West Nile Virus and EEE until the first hard frost.

OTSEGO COUNTY — The Health Department of Northwest Michigan was told Tuesday by the Department of Natural Resources that an American crow collected in Otsego County tested positive for West Nile virus. This follows reports from earlier in the month about birds in Antrim County that tested positive for WNV and Eastern equine encephalitis.
