A 960-acre brush fire sparked in the Woodland Hills area near the 101 Freeway Thursday afternoon. The Los Angeles Fire Department said that the fire was quickly burning toward the south, relatively close to homes before they were able to establish perimeter lines.

A new fire near West Hills on the border between Los Angeles and Ventura counties erupted Thursday afternoon as several other blazes are actively burning in the Los Angeles area, aerial footage shows.

By 5:25 p.m., Cal Fire said the fire had already spread to 960 acres. Evacuations were ordered in the Hidden Hills area, from Vanowen south to Burbank
