A local felid sanctuary is mourning the loss of another wild cat after more than a dozen animals at the shelter died from bird flu.

California has also reported bird flu infections in cats fed raw milk or pet food. In one Los Angeles household, five cats got sick — and two died — after eating two kinds of raw pet food. Samples from one of the two brands, Monarch Raw Pet Food, tested positive for the virus, officials said.

Bird flu has been found in both Northwest Naturals and Monarch Raw Pet Food. One cat has died while several have been sickened after eating the food.

More than 1,300 pounds of cat food are being recalled due to Salmonella contamination, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The affected product, Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Mix, was sold in 2-pound bags with the lot number N25-0716.
