French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko beat Iga Swiatek for a remarkable fifth consecutive match in the Qatar TotalEnergies Open semifinal. The Latvian’s victory in Doha is the most impressive yet because the Pole was the three-time defending champion.

The cameras picked up an outstanding moment in Doha as an angry Iga Swiatek was smashing her racket while Jelena Ostapenko observed it and laughed. After falling short in her four first matches against the Latvian, the five-time Grand Slam champion entered their Doha semifinal hoping to finally get one win in their meetings.

Swiatek has never beaten the Latvian and was immediately put under pressure, losing her serve in the opening game of the match.
