The Beverly Hills home where the Menendez brothers shot their parents dead in 1996 is in the midst of major renovations—even as incarcerated siblings Erik and Lyle Menendez are due to make a bid for freedom at a resentencing hearing in Los Angeles.

Brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez, jailed for life for the 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills, are set to be given a hearing on Thursday to determine whether they may be eligible for a lesser sentence and a path to parole after more than three decades behind bars.

The Menendez brothers say their sentence needs to be revisited, claiming they were victims of childhood sexual abuse at their father’s hands and they acted in self-defense. They also argue they’ve demonstrated remorse and undergone rehabilitation while in prison.
