If you were off celebrating Dads and Grads yesterday, or just off in general, you might have missed the late-breaking news that the Red Sox traded away a keystone of their offense, and the last remaining fixture of their Old Guard,

After rallying to win a back-and-forth 10-8, 11-inning affair on Monday, the Rays had a quiet night at the plate the following night, rapping just three hits. The loss dropped the Rays to 36-31 and, at least temporarily, halted the momentum from their recent hot streak, having won six of their previous seven and a majors-best 15 of 19.

Jake Mangum had four hits, and Junior Caminero drew a bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays took advantage of Boston mistakes to win 10-8 and spoil the debut of top Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony.

Zack Littell proved that to be untrue Wednesday, allowing four over his six innings as the Rays fell 4-3 to the Red Sox. The loss was the Rays’ second straight, dropping their record to 36-32 and saddling them with their first series loss in nearly a month, having gone 6-0-1 since dropping two of three at Miami on May 16-18.

The Boston Red Sox made a stunning move by calling up top prospect Roman Anthony ahead of their series against the Rays on June 9.

After posting a 3-1 win over the Rays Tuesday night, the Red Sox will go for the series win when the teams meet again Wednesday in the rubber match. Lucas Giolito had a bounce-back performance, allowing three hits over six innings as the Sox handed the Rays just their fifth loss in the last 20 games.

Roman Anthony hit a two-run double for his first major league hit and added a sliding catch in right field to help the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1.
