The actor will be in a slew of other projects, though, for audiences to still enjoy post-“The Last of Us.” Pascal leads “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and also stars in “Materialists,” both in theaters this summer.

"The Last of Us" star Pedro Pascal reacted to the events involving his character, Joel, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in Season 2, Episode 2.

Fans who played the video game “The Last of Us, Part II” were likely less surprised at Joel’s exit — he dies pretty much the same way in that storyline. And as in the game, Ellie tells Abby that she’s now got a mortal enemy, which simply continues the revenge cycle that no one can win.

The Last of Us fans learned a hard lesson in episode 2. This story of violence, revenge, and infection isn’t playing nice. However you thought The Last of Us would play out in season 2, that plan will no longer include Joel.
