The earthquake hit approximately 16 miles southwest of Ackerly, Texas in Martin County. The agency reported the quake happened just after 1:30 p.m. central Friday at a depth of around 4 miles.

At 1:33 p.m., a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit southwest of Ackerly. USGS said it was 4.2 miles in depth. A second earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 was located south, southeast of Ackerly. This occurred at 3:47 p.m. and was 2.6 miles in depth, USGS reports.

Several areas around Midland reported feeling the earthquake, as did some parts of Southern New Mexico, including Roswell, Carlsbad and Alamogordo.
