EU capitals have agreed a fresh sanctions package against Russia, as Brussels vows to step up pressure on Moscow and increase its support for Kyiv, widening a transatlantic divide with US President Donald Trump as he pushes for a rapid end to the war in Ukraine.

European Union envoys have approved new sanctions against Russia, with the measures set to enter into force next week on the third anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine

Ambassadors from EU member states gave the green light Wednesday morning to the 16th package of EU sanctions on Russia. This package will encompass additional sectors of the Russian economy and the shadow fleet responsible for transporting oil from Russia.
