Despite a strong challenge from Francesco Bagnaia, Martin's consistent podium finishes and strategic riding throughout the season earned him enough points to clinch the championship in the final race at Barcelona.

Five months after Jorge Martin was overlooked for the factory Ducati seat, the Spaniard will hop off its all-conquering Desmosedici bike as its best rider and move to Aprilia as MotoGP champion.

The 26-year-old, nicknamed the 'Martinator', also ensured that Ducati-Pramac became the first independent team to win the rider's title since Valentino Rossi in 2001, the final year of 500cc racing.
