Authorities are urging the public not to attend the "No Kings" events in Minnesota on Saturday following targeted shootings of lawmakers overnight.

Protests are planned in nearly 2,000 locations across the country, from city blocks and small towns to courthouse steps and community parks, organizers said, but no events are scheduled in Washington, D.C., where the military parade will take place in the evening.

More than 1,500 events are planned throughout the U.S. to send a loud message to President Donald Trump: “In America, we don’t do kings.”

The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.

In the Greater Boston area, “No Kings” marches and rallies kicked off late Saturday morning, part of major demonstrations planned across the U.S. protesting the Trump administration.
