Solicitor General confirms release of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and associates, withdrawal of Delhi Police prohibitory order.

Wangchuk was leading the march, 'Delhi Chalo Padyatra', which began from Leh a month ago in order to include Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his associates have been released from detention.

The Centre on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained on September 30 night at the city’s Singhu border for violating prohibitory orders, has been released by the Delhi Police.

Sonam Wangchuk said despite facing difficulties due to detention in Delhi, they were glad their message of environmental conservation reached more people.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his fast after he and his over 150 supporters from Ladakh were released from detention in Delhi. Wangchuk and other Ladakhis were detained at the Singhu border for "violating prohibitory orders",

Tushar Mehta also informs the Delhi High Court that the Ministry of Home Affairs has accepted a memorandum from Ladakh-based climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters.
