New York Newsday's Tim Healey reports on Thursday that free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso is deep in contract talks with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to a source. Healey also writes that he'll believe an Alonso/New York Mets breakup only when he sees it.

Negotiations between free-agent slugger Pete Alonso and the Toronto Blue Jays are "advancing," according to SNY's Andy Martino. Martino noted that

The Blue Jays have whiffed on many top free agents such as Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki and Corbin Burnes. They finally cashed in when they lured Santander to town. Getting Alonso to sign on the dotted line would prove that Toronto is serious about competing in 2025.
