As part of a deal to exchange prisoners of war, Ukraine and Russia are repatriating the remains of thousands of soldiers killed in the war.

The Ukrainian military says Russia’s military losses have topped 1 million, noting the huge price Moscow has paid for its 3-year-old invasion.

Since then, Russia and Ukraine have swapped dozens of prisoners of war, focusing on under-25s and the severely wounded and sick. There are hopes they could build into some of the biggest exchanges in the war that was triggered by Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
