Jan 4, 2022 · The church is unusual in the extent of work carried out in the restoration period (in 1665-6) including a new south aisle and porch, using what is described as 'posthumous Gothic tracery'. The church is Listed Grade I and the lych gate, dating from 1921, is Listed Grade II.

The exterior dates mainly from the nineteenth century and plaques on the pillars of the lych gate commemorate the fallen in the World Wars. Next to the church is Holme Pierrepont Hall seen here with yellow and white crocuses pushing through the grass at the side of the drive.

Holme Pierrepont WWI memorial is a lychgate commemorating all the men from the parish who served in the First World War. The memorial is unusual. Unlike many, it does not take the form of a sacrificial cross standing in an elevated position. Instead, it is a simple wooden lychgate in the wall of St Edmund’s church.
